\nQuestions about donating or selling medical equipment
\n\n
\n\nHow do I prepare\nfor conversations with interested community members?
\n\n
\n\nIf you\noffer your medical equipment for donation or sale, interested community members\nwill contact you by email as soon as November 26, 2016 to arrange a\nsale or donation. You can prepare for these conversations by having the\nfollowing information ready to help interested parties decide whether the\nequipment meets their medical needs:
\n\n\n• Purchase\n date
\n• Brand\n name and/or model number
\n• Item\n condition, including frequency of use, damage or defects
\n• A\n photograph of the item
\n• If the\n item is available for free or your expected price
\n\n\n
\n\nThe medical equipment I submitted is no longer available. How do I remove\nmy listing?
\n\n
\n\nIf your\nitem is no longer available, we can remove your listing from the website.\nPlease fill out the SwapME Feedback Form
\n
\nI would prefer\nto be contacted by phone.  Can I include my phone number in my listing?
\n\n
\n\nAfter you\nhave made initial contact through email, you can choose to exchange phone\nnumbers. SwapME has been set up as a website for ease of access and for the\nsecurity of community members. Listing of personal phone numbers could make it\neasier for you to be targeted by scammers or fraudsters.
\n
\nI have a type of\nmedical equipment that is not listed on the web form. How do I offer it for\ndonation or sale?
\n\n
\n\nAt this time,\nwe are restricting submissions to mobility aids, bathroom safety and bedroom\nsafety equipment. If the SwapME program is successful, we hope to expand the\nprogram to include additional types of medical equipment in the future.
\n
\nMy equipment is\nlarge and heavy. How do I transport it to South Vancouver Neighbourhood House?
\n\n
\n\nUnfortunately, the South\nVancouver Neighbourhood House does not have the resources to provide any pick\nup or drop off services.  We would suggest that you seek assistance from\nfamily members or friends who own a vehicle.

\n\nQuestions about seeking medical equipment
\n\n
\n\nHow do I prepare for conversations with community\nmembers donating or selling equipment?
\n\n
\n\nIf you\nregister to receive a listing of available medical equipment, it will be distributed\nto you on November 26, 2016. If you see a listing for an item you are interested\nin, you can contact the owner via email. During your conversation with the\nequipment owner, we suggest that you ask for the following information:
\n\n• Purchase\n date
\n• Brand\n name and/or model number
\n• Item\n condition, including frequency of use, damage or defects
\n• A\n photograph of the item
\n• Whether\n the item is available for free, or the expected price
\n\n\nTo ensure\nthat the item meets your medical needs, we also suggest that you do Internet\nresearch on the item being offered, contact a medical professional, and/or\nvisit a medical supply store that has the item on display.
\n\n
\n\nHow do I know if the\nequipment meets my medical needs or if I\'m using the equipment properly?
\n\n
\n\nThe SwapME\nprogram helps connect people who need equipment with people who have equipment\nthey no longer need. If you have questions about whether the equipment meets\nyour medical needs or whether you are using it properly, we recommend you ask a\nmedical health professionals such as a family doctor, physiotherapist,\noccupational therapist or nurse to get an assessment. The below community\nprograms and resources are also available from Vancouver Coastal Health:
\n\n• Seniors\n Fall and Injury Prevention Initiative
\n• Central\n Intake for Home and Community Services
(Phone: 604-263-7377)
\n• Home\n and Community Care
\n\n\n
\n\nHow do I know if the equipment is in useable\ncondition? What if it does not work or breaks down?
\n\n
\nIt is the buyer’s responsibility to confirm that\nthe equipment is as described, meets their medical needs, and is in adequately\nusable condition. Consider doing research online, liaise with other seniors who\nhave equipment, and/or visit a medical supplier store to see what new equipment\nshould look like.

\n\nGuidelines for setting up an exchange
\n\n
\n\nWhere should I set up the exchange?
\n\n
\n\nWe\nrecommend that you follow the below best practices when arranging an exchange:
\n\n1. \nWe recommend that you set up\nthe exchange in a public location at a time when there will be many\npeople around.  Safe options include community centres, public libraries,\nskytrain stations, or shopping centres. Individuals who choose to meet at South\nVancouver Neighbourhood House can contact Samuel Iwama (Seniors Hub Program\nCoordinator) at sami@southvan.org to coordinate a time.
\n\n2. \nSome individuals may wish to\nmeet at their private residence.  Though this can be a convenient\noption for one or both parties, it is not recommended.  If the parties do\nagree to meet at a private residence, both parties should be sure to bring\nalong a companion.
\n\nFor your safety, we\nsuggest that you inform someone of where you will be going, who you\nare meeting, and when you expect to return.
\n\n
\n\nWhat steps should I take when meeting up for the exchange?
\n\n
\n\nWe recommend that you follow the suggestions below during your exchange:
\n\n1. \nIf\npurchasing an item, be sure to inspect the item before making payment.\n It is the buyer’s responsibility to confirm that the equipment is as\ndescribed, meets their medical needs, and is in adequately usable condition.
\n\n2. \nPayments are best made in cash.  Do not expect the seller to\nbring change so be sure to have the exact payment amount required.
\n\n
\n\nHow do I ensure my online safety?
\n\n
\n\nNeither SwapME, SVNH, nor the Seniors Hub will\never contact to ask for or to confirm your personal information including any\nuser names, passwords, phone numbers, or credit card information. Use of SwapME\ndoes not require you to download any software or install any program.
\n\nBelow are some tips to avoid scams:
\n\n• Do not arrange an exchange with\n members outside of the South Vancouver Neighbourhood House service area.
\n• Do not make a payment to anyone\n you have not met in person.
\n• Never make or accept payment via\n Western Union, cashier/certified cheques, personal cheques or money\n orders.
\n• Never give out your private\n personal information such as financial or medical records
\n• Ignore emails from individuals\n looking to buy or offer something unrelated to your listed item.
\n\n\nMessages from scammers often include one or more\nof the following:
\n\n• Vague initial inquiry about your\n item using poor grammar and/or spelling.
\n• Request to use Western Union,\n MoneyGram, Paypal, a third party service payment service like an escrow,\n or a “guarantee”.
\n• Request that you pay a shipping\n charge or involve a third party for delivery.
\n• Are reluctant to meet in person\n to allow for inspection of the item or complete the transaction.
\n\n\nIf you believe that a SwapME listing is a scam,\nplease complete the SwapME Feedback Form. If you believe you have been contacted by a fraudster or have been defrauded\nby someone, notify the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501) or the\nVancouver Police Department.

\n\nQuestions about the program
\n\n
\n\nEnglish is not my first language. Will this website be\ntranslated to other languages?
\n\n
\n\nWe acknowledge the\ndiverse cultural needs of the South Vancouver neighbourhood and understand that\nEnglish is a second language for many people.  We will be seeking feedback\nfrom community members to determine what languages need to be added in the\nfuture.  In the interim, we suggest finding a family member or friend who\nis able to assist with translation.
\n\n
\n\nThis program sounds great!\nCan I participate if I live outside of the SVNH service area?
\n\n
\n\nAt this time, we are\nrestricting participants to the SVNH service area. If the SwapME program is\nsuccessful, we hope to expand the program to include other Vancouver communities\nand seniors associations in the future.
\n\n
\n\nI have good ideas for the\nSwapME Program. How do I submit them?
\n\n
\n\nWe would love to hear\nyour suggestions & feedback so that we can continue to make this program\nbetter! Please submit your ideas through the SwapME Feedback Form\n
