Our Seniors Hub Planning Retreat

Members of the Seniors Hub Council and committees met together on two separate occasions on February 8 and 16, 2013 to do some visioning and planning including going over our Board Governance Manual.  On a second full day we met at the Shadbolt Centre at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby.  It was a good time together!  Lillian Whitmore of Lighthouse Consulting was our guide and facilitator - Thank you Lillian!

Below is a short slideshow showing some of our work together on our second day - enjoy!  - photos by David Wu

Official Launch of the Seniors Hub

The "Bring IT Together" Multicultural Spring Fair

Back on Thursday, March 29, 2012, The South Vancouver Seniors Hub was officially launched.  The Hub hosted a colourful Multicultural Fair at Champlain Heights Community Centre.

There was entertainment, interactive and static displays that offered dialogue that connected those who attended with different cultural practices. Everyone celebrated the opportunity to exchange knowledge between themselves, the presenters, the performers, and other participants - a good time was had by all!

Below is a video of that wonderful event - Enjoy!

125 Vancouver Stories

Rosaria Cassano came to Vancouver from Italy in 1961, many of her first lessons and experiences took place .... on the bus!
Harbjan Athwal never forgot the kindness of a landlord.
Carmen Handinera shares her story of moving to Vancouver from the Philippines when she was 54 years old.

Gen Silent - The Documentary Trailer

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender older people who fought the first battles for equality now face so much fear of discrimination, bullying and abuse that many are hiding their lives to survive. Thousands are dying earlier than their straight counterparts because they are isolated and afraid to ask for help. But a growing number of people are fighting to keep
LGBT aging from meaning aging in silence.
- Trailer runtime: 4:02
