Joan, we wish you a wonderful congratulations and retirement. We thank you for the last 10 years of amazing service to us all at the Seniors Hub and SVNH - we're really going to miss you!
We celebrated Joan with a retirement party on January 22nd at SVNH, and a good time was had by all - hopefully we'll be able to post some pictures soon. Below, is Joan's official farewell that she wrote for the Seniors Hub Winter 2015 Newsletter.
Dear friends and colleagues of the Seniors Hub:
Farewell to you all and I am saddened to say this is my last issue of the Hub Newsletter.
Although putting out a newsletter even as infrequent as this one is, it is always a busy time.
I would like to thank all the willing contributors of articles, stories and pictures; the team of seniors and staff who distribute the 1500 copies to the 45 groups; and I would be remiss if I didn’t appreciate the work of the Communications Committee for proofing, editing, and layout, and our community printer, Sylvie at The Printing House for the printing.
We could not have done it without you, our readers, whom I invite you to provide feedback on the Hub newsletter. We would like to know what you would like to see in the newsletter. Please send your feedback to Shelley at email@example.com or by phone at 604-324-6212.
It is also time for me to say good bye to the Neighbourhood House and the greater community. I want to appreciate and thank all my colleagues, our hub and community partners, staff and board members, for all the wonderful collaborations; the volunteers who steadfastly lead and facilitate the 25 seniors-led programs here at SVNH and in our community; and to our participants whom we do it all for, who come daily to socialize, meet new friends, share and learn new skills.
I salute all the members of the South Vancouver Seniors Hub Council who strive to meet the needs of the seniors in our community. They are the ones who perform countless hours generously sharing their knowledge and skills, ensuring that seniors who are socially isolated are connected to support services and caring neighbourhoods, that seniors have a voice in those areas that matter to them and that all seniors in South Vancouver are supported to be independent and actively participate in community life. I have learned so much from all of you.
Working here at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House has been such a fulfilling experience. I have been stimulated and challenged by the number of roles and opportunities I have been given.
Shelley Jorde was hired in March 2014 to work alongside me and the Seniors Hub Council to ensure a seamless transition for the Hub. It has been a joy for both the council and me to have her on board. She and the Seniors Hub Council will take the Hub to the next level. They lead from the heart, inspiring me with their creativity, wisdom, intelligence, commitment and humility.
With much love and light to you all, Joan
We welcome you to add your well-wishes to Joan in the comments below.
