DOXA Documentary Film Festival’s Motion Pictures Film Series, with support from the DVBIA (Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association), is very happy to offer our first-ever FREE outdoor summer screening at Robson Square. DOXA is proud to offer the Vancouver premiere of Bryn Evan’s Hip Hop-eration.
This deeply charming film captures a group of elderly New Zealanders who embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they set their sights on competing in the 2013 World Hip Hop Champions in Las Vegas. Whether it’s long lost love affairs or anti-nuke protests, each of these men and women (ranging in age from 65 to 94) are revealed to be characters in their own right.
Under the fierce guidance of their teacher and coach Billie Jordan, the group comes together, popping and locking in preparation for their Las Vegas premiere. “You’re all going… even if it’s in an urn,” says Jordan. But as the competition heats up and the dancers take to the stage, something entirely unexpected happens.
Please, feel free to pass along the information about this film to your family, friends, and colleagues or to anyone who might be interested this week leading up to the screening, via Facebook, Twitter, or email.
