Choose to Move - a new program offered by Killarney Community Centre and the Vancouver Park Board

3/15/2017

Choose to Move is a program developed and delivered by the Killarney Community Centre Society and the Vancouver Park Board that helps folks 65+ to get motivated to get physically active.

This program is a six month commitment, choice-based, physical activity coaching and planning program that targets inactive older adults, 65 years of age and older.

Program participants will receive coaching and planning support from an Activity Coach to develop a personalized physical activity plan, to be executed independently and separately of the Choose to Move program. Plans will be tailored to an older adult’s interests, abilities, income and available community based physical activity opportunities.

Participants may choose to increase their physical activity through participation in structured programs or through their own pursuits. The activities can be structured physical activity programs (this will include the ActivAge program as well as any pre-existing programs offered by the community) or self-led activities the participant would want to start to engage in (e.g. walking, swimming). Support from the Activity Coach will occur through: one-on-one meetings, group meetings, and individual telephone calls.
