Better at Home is a program designed to help seniors live independently in their homes by providing simple, non-medical support services, such as light housekeeping and transportation to seniors living in the South Vancouver area.
Services are charged on a sliding scale based on income. The program is delivered through a partnership between the South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH), Progressive
Intercultural Community Services (PICS), funding by the Government of BC and managed by the United Way of the Lower Mainland.

Am I Eligible?

If you are a senior living in the South Vancouver Community you may be eligible
to access light housekeeping, transportation and other services.
Contact your Better at Home service providers and a program coordinator will speak with you, assess your needs, and arrange a meeting. (see contact info below)

Area of Services
The Vancouver South Better at Home boundaries are south of East 41st Avenue, North of the Fraser River, East of Ontario Street and West of Boundary Road.
Light Housekeeping

The objective of the Better at Home housekeeping services is to promote independence for seniors living in their own homes.
To that end Vancouver South Better at Home will provide assistance with tasks that are physically too difficult for a senior to perform. Housekeeping services will be provided by trained staff and services will be charged on a sliding scale based on income. Some services may be free. Cleaning supplies and equipment including vacuum must be provided by the senior.

- Personal hygiene assistance, such as bathing and grooming
- Help with medical needs or physical mobility
- Help with meal preparation, and/or pet bathing

Volunteer Driver Transportation

Better at Home offers safe, friendly, and courteous rides to seniors with mobility issues living in the South Vancouver area. This initiative strives to keep elders connected to their communities and living independently and comfortably in their own homes.
Shopping Shuttle
Our shopping shuttle runs the first Friday of each month. It provides door-to-door shopping services on a wheel chair accessible bus to seniors for a suggested minimum donation of $5. Call for details.
Transportation will be provided by volunteers who are screened and trained.
Priority will be given to seniors with mobility challenges that affect their ability to undertake day-to-day tasks. Services will be charged on a sliding scale based on income, some services may be free. (see Fee documents below)

Volunteer Visitors
Volunteers visit seniors in their home to help them overcome the challenges of independent living and provide companionship. Visits are weekly and volunteers receive training. Free service.
Light Yard Work
Light yard work services provided in partnership with Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI). Services include lawn mowing and yard clean up. Equipment must be provided by the senior. Sliding scale fees apply, some services may be free.
